Our Own Unhappy Ghost

Our Own Unhappy Ghost

A ghost story that scared the BEE Jeezeez out of us!

A few weeks went by with no strange occurrences and Trey seemed to be sleeping better. I felt relieved but it stayed in the back of my mind constantly.

Me being in the construction trades seemed like constant transition from one contractor to the next. There is never any job security, especially in a broken economy. I started working for an old pal, Jimmy, that I had not seen in many years who was running several job sites right around the corner from me. It was some financial relief.

A few days a week he would often buy me lunch so I decided to exchange the gesture and invite him over to the house for some cold cuts and a quick beer. He had never visited my new home and earnestly accepted. When we walked up the long flight of stairs he had remembered a friend of his that had lived here before me. “Holy smokes Richie.” “This is where Terrance used too live.”

In friendly conversation while opening my door to enter I asked, “What?” “Did he end up quitting or moving?”  “No Rich.”  ”He died right there in that room.” Pointing to Trey’s room with an apprehensive glimpse. “They didn’t find him for like three days until his room mate returned from a long weekend.” He stated with some dismay.

“How did he die?” I asked with serious concern. “Apparently he was  allergic to bees and while he was sleeping, he got stung on his neck.” “His throat swelled up so much he couldn’t breath and in a violent reaction he destroyed his room fighting for air before asphyxiating to death.”  He answered now seemingly depressed.

I turned just about as white as a ghost and decided not to tell him about our experiences here in the home. We both lost our appetites and settled for a few cold Newcastle’s deciding to get back to the job site. I couldn’t stop thinking about what he had revealed to me.

When I returned home from work I apprehensively told Erica what Jimmy had told me, and we both agreed to move Trey upstairs on the third floor spare bedroom. He was very happy. The next day I called my landlord and asked him if there was a death that had occurred within our home. He had confirmed that before buying the house a real estate agent had stated that someone indeed had died from an allergic reaction from bee stings. Image courtesy of beegirl @ flickr.com

Dazed and confused from the months events it was quite apparent we had an unhappy ghost named “Terrance” that would come and go between the realms of life and death. Maybe his spirit is stuck in some sort of suspended animation within that room we now use as a storage area. Maybe he doesn’t even know he’s dead!

The haunted house feel really carried me through this story. Your descriptions were on key, and Trey’s experiences very believeable, and then the explanation to your haunt.. fantastic.. one question Trey and Terrance any meaning in the similar names. One other thing. The way you explained the death with the bee-sting and the violence in trying to breath.. was so full of motion. This was worth the wait

By the way I did mean motion not emotion it’s like watching it unfold right before my eyes :)

A vivid and awesome story, the pictures are a sweet touch to a suspense filled drama. nice work my friend.

Intriguing Richard but incredibly frightening…especially for a child. Fiction is not as compelling or as scary as the real thing. A really good ghost story about a real encounter…nerve-tingling reading Rich :-)

awesome and I believe
I have a ghost story coming soon,
a hard tale to get the grip of true all the same.

Richard, great story. You artfully captured the sounds and the fear to the point the reader can almost feel the breathing themselves. I truly enjoyed it.

Great write, Rich. You’re a braver man than me—I’d have got out of there double-quick at the first hint of spooky goings-on.

An excellent story Richard. Ghosts are everywhere. We are the performers, they are the watchers.

Lauren Axelrod, posted this comment on Feb 20th, 2010

Is this really true Richard? Every time I hear a ghost story that incorporates bees into it I think of the devil. It wasn’t just because of the movies that have used this idea before, but the fact that bees seem to be present when spirits are unsettled. Crazy story, err.

nice one

As a comment to Laurens comment about the bees and the devil… every thing can be said to be a symbol of the devil depending on whom you talk to. I do not think bees are anything more than little creatures gathering nectar for their own survival. The guy picked the wrong bedroom to sleep in for his situation. Now people have epipens and if they are stung they treat themselves.
still kinda creepy

Hmmm….if this is a true story and your family can both see and hear things then it is likely that you all have some sort of either spiritual or clairvoyant activity; Especially Trey.

Wow, kind of creepy. I love the images you picked to go with it.

really frickin creepy! Sometimes I get vibes or energy from certain houses. When people die violent deaths I think sometimes their energy is left there. Although, it sounds more like his actual spirit was still there, trying to fight his death. But anger and despair are energies that are harder to rid. Did you ever try and bring a priest to cleanse the room?

I know it is retro and girlie of me but bee stings remind me of the movie My Girl:D

Why are all ghost stories associated with large houses? I guess ghosts don’t bother with apartment flats:D

(did I just jinx my own dreams tonight? Oh crap!:) )

Excellent. Daddy died August 19.Then the first time was in September when I saw him in , he was in my bed with his arm around me. I fell off the bed and when I got up, he was gone. I have felt him being there a few times
