Our Own Unhappy Ghost

Our Own Unhappy Ghost

A ghost story that scared the BEE Jeezeez out of us!

Our move from a quaint Cape house into a three story Victorian was fairly smooth. I was most attracted to the huge deck on the second floor off of the south side of the home. There were a few Maple trees and a very large Mulberry tree with long branches that outstretched over the deck. I knew I would be spending a lot of time out there grilling burgers and dogs just playing guitars. It was very private and shaded from all of the trees surrounding the home. I did notice a lot of bees though. Buzzing around the Mulberries, charmed by the sweet nectar.

We let our children pick out their own bedrooms and Trey picked the room closest to the deck near the Mulberry tree. Kiara picked the room opposite to Trey’s. The first night we all slept there, Trey started having nightmares. I would wake up from hearing his cries for me, “Daddy, daddy, theirs someone in my room”. I would run into his room and turn the light on to see no one. I just figured he wasn’t quite acclimated  to the new house yet and his sleep may be getting disrupted from the move. I would tell him, “C’Mon, let’s hang out in the living room together and fall asleep watching cartoons on the sofa’s. He was all for that of course. We ended up falling asleep just fine.

Over the next few weeks his nightmares started to become more intense and vivid. When I would run to his pleas, he would have the covers pulled tightly over his head shivering in wicked fear. I would ask, “Trey, what are you seeing?” In obvious distress he would answer, “Daddy, I feel someone over me breathing on my face really hard and then it sounds like he’s choking.”  ”I also keep hearing bees flying around the room all night.”  ”I’m really scared Daddy.”

I looked around the room searching for any bees flying around. Pulling the curtains back from the windows, I could see there were no bees inside or out. This was beginning to alarm me because Trey never had any problems with nightmares and he was becoming fearful of going to sleep now. Again, we would end up going to sleep in the living room watching cartoons. This went on for several months.

The haunted house feel really carried me through this story. Your descriptions were on key, and Trey’s experiences very believeable, and then the explanation to your haunt.. fantastic.. one question Trey and Terrance any meaning in the similar names. One other thing. The way you explained the death with the bee-sting and the violence in trying to breath.. was so full of motion. This was worth the wait

By the way I did mean motion not emotion it’s like watching it unfold right before my eyes :)

A vivid and awesome story, the pictures are a sweet touch to a suspense filled drama. nice work my friend.

Intriguing Richard but incredibly frightening…especially for a child. Fiction is not as compelling or as scary as the real thing. A really good ghost story about a real encounter…nerve-tingling reading Rich :-)

awesome and I believe
I have a ghost story coming soon,
a hard tale to get the grip of true all the same.

Richard, great story. You artfully captured the sounds and the fear to the point the reader can almost feel the breathing themselves. I truly enjoyed it.

Great write, Rich. You’re a braver man than me—I’d have got out of there double-quick at the first hint of spooky goings-on.

An excellent story Richard. Ghosts are everywhere. We are the performers, they are the watchers.

Lauren Axelrod, posted this comment on Feb 20th, 2010

Is this really true Richard? Every time I hear a ghost story that incorporates bees into it I think of the devil. It wasn’t just because of the movies that have used this idea before, but the fact that bees seem to be present when spirits are unsettled. Crazy story, err.

nice one

As a comment to Laurens comment about the bees and the devil… every thing can be said to be a symbol of the devil depending on whom you talk to. I do not think bees are anything more than little creatures gathering nectar for their own survival. The guy picked the wrong bedroom to sleep in for his situation. Now people have epipens and if they are stung they treat themselves.
still kinda creepy

Hmmm….if this is a true story and your family can both see and hear things then it is likely that you all have some sort of either spiritual or clairvoyant activity; Especially Trey.

really frickin creepy! Sometimes I get vibes or energy from certain houses. When people die violent deaths I think sometimes their energy is left there. Although, it sounds more like his actual spirit was still there, trying to fight his death. But anger and despair are energies that are harder to rid. Did you ever try and bring a priest to cleanse the room?

I know it is retro and girlie of me but bee stings remind me of the movie My Girl:D

Why are all ghost stories associated with large houses? I guess ghosts don’t bother with apartment flats:D

(did I just jinx my own dreams tonight? Oh crap!:) )

Excellent. Daddy died August 19.Then the first time was in September when I saw him in , he was in my bed with his arm around me. I fell off the bed and when I got up, he was gone. I have felt him being there a few times
